Van. F. Pickerill, 39, of Springfield and another man were fatally injured yesterday when the Pickerill automobile and a pickup truck collided about two miles south of Brighton on Route 111. Pickerill, accompanied by his wife Eileen, who was injured in the accident, was en route to St. Louis. Pickerill was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Joseph's hospital, Alton.
Born Jan. 6, 1913, in Evansville, Ind., Pickerill was a partner here in the firm of Van Pickerill & Sons, liquor distributors. He also was sales manager for the midwest division of Stitzel-Weller, distillers, of Louisville, Ky.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his father, Van Pickerill, city; mother, Mrs. Mary Walsh Pickerill, Grayville, and a brother, Jay F. Pickerill, New Orleans, La.
Pickerill was a member of the Y.M.C.A. and the Missouri Athletic club, of St. Louis.
