Son of Henry Jacob Riblet and Harriet Rhoads. Married Fanny Jones in 1872 and again in 1879; Gladys Palmer in 1883; and Mrs. Minnie Helen Mitchell Amberg or Arnberg in 1899. Father of Frank Rhoads Riblett and Henry Riblett. Jacob graduated from West Point in 1872 and was a hospital steward in the 108th Illinois Infantry during the Civil War. He later worked for several years as editor and publisher of several different newspapers. He died when his coat was caught in a belt on a job press in the Bellaire Independent office, throwing him to the floor and causing a brain concussion.
