Velma went to Greenwood High School. She was on the girls' basketball team. The last six weeks of her senior year she had double pneumonia and didn't graduate with her 1921 class.
Velma's step mother had a restaurant (1918) in Greenwood on Main St just east of Madison Av on the north side of the street. Velma worked there and helped run it.
Velma may have met Earl while she was working at a restaurant in Greenwood when he stopped there on his bus route or when she rode his bus.
Velma married Earl Bryant Harmon (1896-1984) on March 16, 1922 in Johnson Co, Indiana.
Her step mother, Josephine, died in 1923. Her father died in 1925 in Elizabethtown, Indiana - destitute.

Between 1954 and 1962 she workded as a cook at Bab's restaurant which was a part of the Cities Service filling station, Frank, her son, ran the service station.
In the summer of 1962 she became ill. She had gallbladder surgery, but died the next morning of a stroke.
She was a member of the Whiteland United Methodist Church and a devoted mother.
Cause of death: cerebral vascular accident after surgery.
She died at age 59 years 11 months 17 days.
