SILVERTON - Phyllis K. Martin was born in Monango, N.D. to Myron and Irma (Starzel) Cook on February 4, 1927. She moved to Silverton as a teenager and later married Robert Martin. They settled in Silverton about 60 years ago and since then lived around the Willamette Valley area.

Phyllis worked as a chiropractic assistant and x-ray tech for Schmidt Chiropractic Clinic for 28 years. She loved traveling, spending time with her family, gardening, home decorating, garage sales, and shopping. Phyllis was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Silverton and also was a member of the AARP.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca in 1952 and daughter, Patricia Johnson in 1998.

Survivors include sons, John Martin of Silverton, Robert Martin of Waldport, William Martin of LaPine, and David Martin of Lyons; daughters, Diane Stuhr of Stayton, Benita Walls of Dallas, and Annette Frank of Silverton; sister, Lozetta Dahl of Lyle, Wash.; brother, Herb Starzel of Centerville, S.D.; sisters, Rita Lundberg of Huron, S.D. and Lavina Wood of Newburg; 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Services are 11 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2005 at Unger Funeral Chapel, Silverton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
