He retired in 1971 from the United States Air Force after 21 years, having served during the Japanese occupation, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. In 1988, he retired from careers in real estate and insurance. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Anderson, SC where he served as a member of the Church Council and Treasurer. He resided in Anderson, SC at the time of his death. He was seventy-six years old. He had two children and two grandchildren.
