The death date listed here does not match the grave marker. According to Thomas Bryan Pursley's obituary in the June 1, 1884 Weekly Sumter County Republican:
"Master Tommy Pursley a bright, intelligent, promising boy, fourteen years old, nephew of Prof A. J. Clarke, accidently killed himself at his home in Andersonville last Sabbath morning,..." "The accident happened at 11 o'clock and death ensued at 2."
The accident was documented as a self inflicted gun shot wound. Prof A. J. Clarke is Capt Alonzo Judson Pursley's father-in-law.
Using a day-of-the-week calculator, June 1, 1884 was a Sunday, therefore the previous Sunday would have been May 25, 1884.
