John Edward, son of George Washington and Rachel Elizabeth Jones, born in Jasper County, Illinois November 12, 1852, died at his late home 356 Ivy Street, Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon on August 27, 1926 at the age of 73 years, 10 months, 14 days. On December 31, 1874 he was united in marriage with Mary Catherine King. To this union were born four sons and seven daughters of whom one son and seven daughters preceded him into the Great Beyond.
In the early eighties he and his beloved wife united with the Primitive Baptist Church at Hickory Creek, Illinois and remained a faithful member until the day of his death. He leaves to mourn his passing his widow, Mary Catherine, three sons, Orie Lester and William Washington Jones of Beaverton, Oregon and John Daniel Jones of Monmouth, Oregon, eight grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
