Terry was the infant son of Roger A. Moehlman and Mary Mabel Akers. He had a sister, Brenda Moehlman and three half-sisters from his mother's previous marriage to Ethan Wayne Ratliff; Rosemary, Paula and Carolyn.

Paternal grandparents were Herman Fred and Frieda Moehlmann.

Maternal grandparents were William Thomas Akers and Lucy May Rush.

Maternal great grandparents were Edward Ray Akers and Mary Elizabeth 'Alice' Pyle.
