A memorial service for longtime Yamhill resident Joseph Fenton Allyn of San Luis Obispo, Calif., will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Macy & Son Funeral Directors, McMinnville. The Rev. Steve Ross of McMinnville United Methodist Church will officiate.
Mausoleum interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, McMinnville.
Mr. Allyn died Oct. 6, 2000, in Laguna Lake Cottage, San Luis Obispo. He was 93.
He was born Oct. 11, 1906, in Warren Center, Pa., the son of Joseph and Olive Louisa Rockefeller Allyn. He was raised and educated in Johnson City, N.Y.
He moved to California in 1924 and eventually settled in Sonora, Calif., where he owned and operated grocery stores.
He and Delores were married Sept. 1, 1950, in Reno.
He moved to Portland in 1951 and operated a grocery store there. He moved in 1952 to Yamhill, where he worked for and eventually purchased the T & E General Store. He retired in 1977. He moved to California in 2000 to be near a daughter.
He was past master of the Tuolumne Masonic Lodge. He loved to fish and hunt.
Survivors include two daughters, Jo Ann Nasta of San Luis Obispo and Judy Coughlin of Los Gatos, Calif.; a brother, LaVerne Allyn of San Diego; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
