Col. James B. Bowers, 50, U.S. Air Force, stationed in Bangkok, Thailand, has died there of an apparent heart attack. He was a native of Kingsport, a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School, and was formerly a member of the First Christian Church. Bowers had a distinguished service record as a bombadier during Worlk War II, served two tours of duty in Japan and was on the staff of SINSAP in Honolulu. Prior to his leaving for Bangkok, he was stationed at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. He had traveled extensively during his years with the Air Force. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. James B. Bowers; two sons and one daughter, Thailand; one daughter, Bristol; and two sisters, Mrs. Wanda Bowers Flanary, Kingsport and Mrs. Phillip B. Hardymon, Columbus, Ohio. The body will be taken to San Francisco, where interment will take place.
