JOHN S. GONTERMAN DEAD

A Well Known Resident of Forsyth Expired There Thursday After an Illness of Three Weeks.

THE FUNERAL ON SATURDAY

John S. Gonterman, who has for many years been a resident of Forsyth, died at 3 a.m. Thursday at his home in that place. He has been confined to his bed for about three weeks and Bright's disease was the cause of death.

Mr. Gonterman was born near Troy, Ill., May 25, 1830. He came to Macon county in 1864 and settled at Niantic where he lived for eight years and then he moved to Forsyth and lived near that town until the time of his death.

On Nov. 27, 1856, Mr Gonterman was married to Mary A. Purviance at Troy. All of the seven children of the couple are still living. They are Mrs. J. E. Shisler of near Harristown, Miss Emma F. Gonterman who lives at home, Mrs. B. G. Sholl of near Forsyth, Mrs. D. N. Fickes of Moweaqua, George D. Gonterman of Forsyth and James C. Gonterman of California.

For many years Mr. Gonterman was a member of the Christian church. He first joined the church at Niantic and at the time of his death was a member of the Oreana Christian church. Mr. Gonterman was an Odd Fellow. He was a member of the lodge at Troy and transferred his membership to Niantic and afterward to Forsyth. Mr. Gonterman had been a farmer all his life and was well known in the neighborhood of Niantic.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday from the I. O. O. F. hall at Forsyth and the lodge will have charge of the services.
