Obituary from the Milford Nebraksan, January 13, 1899
"Gone Home"
Andrew James Marsh was born in Ohio, March 30, 1850, and died at Milford, Nebr., Jan. 8th, 1899, aged 48 years, 9 months, and 8 days. He moved from Ohio to Illinois with his parents when four years old; and was converted at the age of 16 years. He married Anna Frankeberger in 1874 and joined the Wisconsin Conference in 1877. Severed his connection with that Conference, came to Nebraska and joined the Nebraska Conference at Hastings in 1882, preaching first at Utica and Tamora, then Bradshaw and Arborville, then Shelby. From Shelby, he moved to Illinois to care for his aged parents. At the end of 2 years he returned to Nebraska being stationed at Guide Rock, then Clay Center, then Milford, moving from here to California, remaining 2 yrs. Coming back to Nebraska a year ago last October, to Phillips, where his health broke down. Took the superannuated relation at the conference last fall, but acted as supply to Pleasant Dale for a few weeks when he broke entirely down, and took to his bed in just 10 weeks from the day of his death. Never a word of complaint escaped him; never saw his equal in patience. Told Elder Crosthwaits on Saturday evening that he was going to get well right away.
He leaves a family consisting of the widow and children at home, and a married daughter at Guide Rock, Nebr., also one brother living in Iowa who visited him twice during his illness, and 5 sisters, all living. His mother had preceded him about a week, having died in California, but was interred by the side of her husband in Illinois. A brother and sister had also passed over before him. As a father he has always said that the only legacy he wanted to leave his children, was for them to be able to say, "He was a good man," and we can all say it truly.

Gravesite Details

Andrew's stone is marked with the Circuit Rider Emblem by the Methodist Church. This is wrongly attributed to his son whose name is on the same stone.
