Her parents, Alexander L. Megginson and Martha Walls married at a young age. First moving to Marshall County, MS from Tennessee, with his father, Hector, where Alex served as the Farm Manager for the Strickland Plantation, they later moved to Tippah County, Mississippi where Alex had his own farm. Sarah was born in Marshall County and in the 1870 Tippah Census is shown simply as S. C.
