Everett Hiram Adamson
(September 1, 1886 - March 11, 1946)
Everett Hiram "E.H." Adamson died unexpectedly at 59 years of age at his home on March 11, 1946 in Ottawa (Franklin Co.), Kansas.
He was born Sept. 1, 1886, one of six children of Levina Ellen (Bennett) and Ellis Nathan Adamson. He was a grandson of Amy Jane (Stanley) and Nathan Adamson of Iowa.
His siblings were (1) Martin Ernest Adamson, Sr., (2) Leona (Adamson) Burgess, (3) Mary Myrtle (Adamson) Hopkins, (4) Fred Dail Adamson, and (5) Chester C. Adamson.
Everett Adamson married Lena Nanna Weaver in Ottawa (Franklin Co.), Kansas on August 18, 1913. The wedding took place at Lena's parents' home at 620 N. Poplar St., Ottawa, Kansas.
Lena and Everett made their home at 429 S. Hickory St., Ottawa, Kansas, and they had four (4) children: (1) William Ellis "Bill" Adamson (April 29, 1915 - August 6, 2008), (2) Homer Everett Adamson (September 2, 1917 - January 13, 1995), (3) Dean Allen Adamson (June 24, 1919 - August 9, 1998), and (4) Margaret Louise (Adamson) Dick (May 25, 1928 -).
Everett was a U.S. Postal carrier in Ottawa, Kansas during his entire adult life. Born and reared on his parents' farms, first in Colby, Kansas, then back to Webster Co., Iowa, and then to Franklin Co., Kansas in approximately 1901, he had only an eighth-grade education, if even that much. His daughter, Margaret, has said that he was always a farmer at heart. Along with his regular job with the Postal Service, Everett managed to acquire six or seven rental homes in Ottawa as well as three farms, which they rented on a "share-crop" basis. Margaret has also mention repeatedly that if Everett had gotten any education, he might have gone even further in life. In any event, I've inferred from many conversations with "Aunt Margaret" that Everett was an intelligent, hard-working person with a bit of an authoritarian personality. My mother, Florine (Israel) Adamson, has said on occasion that, "His word was law." in the family. My mother was one of Everett's daughters-in-law. In the same vein, I've also inferred from listening closely over the years to everyone in the family, both with regard to what was and what wasn't said, that both Lena and Everett were clean-living, hard-working, respectable, good citizens. For sure, they neither smoked nor drank. They were not abusive to their children in any way. They got along with other people, and they were discreet and possessed a strong amount of common sense. They provided a good home in every way to their children.
Everett is buried next to Lena in Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas.
