Joseph S. Essex age 92 retired farmer died 11:45 p.m. Thursday at the home of his
daughter Mrs. Herman Bridge 1155 Iowa Ave, with whom he made his home. He had
been ill for 10 days.

The son of James A. and Elizabeth Essex he was born in Rock Island County Illinois
on Oct. 30, 1850 and married Exira Hood in Rock Island County, Illinois. He had
been a resident of Muscatine County for 60 years. Mr. Essex was a member of the
Bloomington Friends Church.

Surviving are his sons Fred S. Essex of Macy Nebraska and James E. Essex of
Muscatine, two daughters Mrs. Gertrude Malone and Mrs. Herman Bridge both
of Muscatine, 16 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. His parents,
wife, two daughters and one son preceded him in death.

The body is at the George M. Wittich funeral home.
