He was born in Canada on 12 May 1840. [His mother's maiden name was Davison]. At age 21 he enlisted as a Quartermaster Sergeant on 10 Aug 1861 at Newburgh, New York. He mustered into his Regiment on 30 Aug 1861 and deserted on 23 Jan 1863. He was retaken on 15 Feb 1863, courtmartialled and reduced to Private on 01 Mar 1863. He was taken Prisoner of War on 19 Jun 1863 at Cooksville, Maryland and released the same date at Cooksville. He was taken Prisoner of War again on 13 Sep 1863 at Culpepper, Virginia and held until 27 Dec 1863 when he was released at City Point, Virginia. He was mustered out of service on 10 Sep 1864 at New York City, New York. In 1900, he, his wife, and daughter Ida were living in Salem, Oregon. On 13 Mar 1925, he died at the home of his daughter in Annapolis. He is buried in the GAR plot. His wife Laura, born in New York in Aug of 1848, died 07 Mar 1914, at the age of 65, and is also buried in the GAR plot.
