"The death of Mrs. Amelia Sarah Gable, widow of Jacob B. Gable, ex-Postmaster of Lititz, occurred on Friday night shortly after 11 o'clock at her late residence on South Broad street. She had a paralytic stroke over a year ago and since then was in failing health. Last Wednesday afternoon she was stricken with apoplexy and was totally unconscious until she fell asleep. All the children were present during her last illness.
Mrs. Gable was born at Schaefferstown, Lebanon county, August 30, 1841, and was consequently 59 years, 3 months and 14 days old. She was a daughter of the late John and Lovinia Staley, of Schaefferstown, and through her mother was allied to the historic Baron Stiegel, a famous character in local history. Her only brother died at Petersburg, Va., while serving in the Union army.
Deceased was a loyal and consistent member of the Lutheran church, having become a member in 1861.
In 1869 she was married to Mr. Gable, and for about thirteen years was a resident of this borough. Her sister, Miss Annie E. Staley, who resides with the family, survives, together with the following children: Paul S., of Washington, D. C.; John E., of Pittsburg; Edmund J., Lovinia V., Mary C., and Fred. S., at home.
The funeral was held on Monday afternoon at the house, with interment at Machpelah cemetery. Rev. I. W. Bobst officiated. Her four sons served as pall-bearers."
