OBITUARY
"Marvin Edward Brown, 18, died Monday night in St. Anthony Hospital of injuries received in a traffic accident two days earlier. Brown, student body president at Pocatello High School last year, had been in critical condition since Saturday when the car he was driving collided broadside with another vehicle, then crashed into a parked truck.

Brown, a brilliant scholar and student leader at the high school intended to enroll at Harvard next month on a scholarship.

Jerry Lieberg, president of the senior class at Pocatello High School last year, announced today a memorial fund is being set up in honor of Brown. Lieberg said proceeds from the memorial fund will be presented to Brown's family. Administrator of the fund will be Mrs. Ray Obermayr, senior class advisor.

Four others injured in the crash, continue to improve today. Cecil Edward Moore, 15, 269 Pine, was listed in fair condition at Bannock Memorial Hospital. One of the injured was released and the other two injured were in good condition. Brown's death was the first traffic fatality in Pocatello since Dec 20, 1961.

Hank Watts, executive secretary of the Pocatello YMCA where Brown lived described Brown as 'a very honest and conscientious boy. He conducted himself like a gentleman should.

Brown took part in the Idaho State YMCA youth and government legislature in 1960.

C. H. Teuscher, principal at Pocatello High School said Brown was a top student. 'When a youngster with his ability dies at such an early age, it's certainly a waste. It's a great loss that he checks out before he has a chance to prove himself,' the principal said.

He was born March 4, 1944, at Kansas City, MO, a son of Rev. George W. and Dorothy Steemer Brown. He is survived by his parents, who live at Colusa, CA; and 2 brothers Vernon Gerald Brown, Los Angeles and George W. Brown III, Colusa.

Mr. Brown was a member of the African Methodist Church. Service will be under the direction of McHan Funeral Home."

1962 Pocatellian Yearbook

"How does one say farewell to a student body which he has come to respect, admire, and cherish. I find this task very difficult. Words are inadequate. I can say that it has been an honor, as well as privilege to have lead such a group.
Underclassman, you have a great potential as well as a grave responsibility; for squarely upon your shoulders rest the responsibility of providing leadership for the immediate future. I am not speaking of the leadership of those whom you elect, but rather of the individual leadership which is the responsibility of each one of you. How well you fulfill this task, in a sense, will determine your success in high school. Use it wisely.
It is my sincere hope that all of you find happiness, purposefulness, and the richness of human experience of which you are so deserving."
Sincerely Yours, Marvin Brown
