"Mrs. Rosalie Gerlach Mattner, 80, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elsie Wassilak, Highland avenue, St. Joseph, 12 :10 a.m. Sunday. She had been ill for the past five years. Mrs. Mattner was born Oct. 25, 1876 in Poland. She came to the United States in 1908. Mrs. Mattner was first married to John Gerlach, who preceded her in death in 1947. She again married in April of 1949, to Ferdinand Mattner who survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Wassilak, Mrs. Emma Kock, of Benton Harbor, Mrs. Olga Newman of Watervliet; and Mrs. Leola Kotzmeher of South bend, Ind., four sons, Ralph Gerlach of Benton Harbor; Gustav Gerlach of Chicago, Martin Gerlach of St. Joseph and John Gerlach attending the Emmanuel Missionary College in Berrien Springs. Also surviving are five step children, Adolph Mattner of Eau Claire, Mrs. Natalie Yops of Benton Harbor, Stell Kutz of Stevensville, Alfred Mattner of Dowagiac and Anthony Fallak of Benton Harbor. A brother, Martin Strunk of Benton Harbor, 25 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at St. Matthew's Lutheran church in Benton Harbor. The Rev. Ernest Wentland will officiate. Burial will be in Crystal Springs cemetery. Friends may call at the Kerlikowske funeral home in St. Joseph until noon Tuesday."
