ARMY CAPTAIN KILLED IN AIR CRASH IN VIETNAM
An Army captain from Pocatello was killed July 17 in an air crash in Vietnam, according to word received by his parents.

The victim was Capt. Lewis DeVern Probart, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis L. Probart, Route Three South. Notification of the death was delayed when the Defense Department was unable to reach his parents, who were on vacation.

Capt. Probart had been in Vietnam since Jan. 23, of this year, serving as a military advisor to allied forces. He previously served in Germany and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal.

He was born in Pocatello March 27, 1943, to Lewis L. and Wilma Drake Probart. He was graduated from Pocatello High School and the LDS Seminary, and received a bachelor's degree in business at Idaho State

He was active in the ROTC program at ISU, and joined the special forces reserve unit where he earned parachutist's wings. For four years he was employed during summers at Yellowstone Park. He had been in the Army three years.
He enjoyed skiing, hunting, fishing and horses.

Survivors include his parents; five sisters, Carol Lee Brower, and Judy, Susan, Bonnie and Debra Probart; and a grandmother, Josie F. Probart, all of Pocatello.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Pocatello LDS 30th Ward Chapel with Bishop Bill Lystrup officiating. Burial will be in the Rigby cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Manning Funeral Chapel.

U.S. Army Captain Lewis D. Probart died in a helicopter crash, Phuoc Tuy, South Vietnam. His name is on Panel 20W, Line 011, Viet Nam Memorial Wall, Washington, D.C.

On July 17, while on a mission in Phuoc Tuy Province WO Garrison's UH-1D struck a tree in a narrow Landing Zone and crashed. WO Garrison and his passenger Capt Lewis Devern Probart were killed by the injuries they sustained. He died along with Noel. K. Garrison
