KANSAS MEMORIAL: Rosemary M. Suckstorf
Rosemary M. Suckstorf, 77, of Thayer, Kansas, formerly of Pierce, passed away unexpectedly Friday, March 27, 2009, at the Labette Health Center in Parsons, Kansas.
Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 3, at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, Chanute, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the Thayer Fire and Rescue Auxiliary Fund for the purchase of a BCI Digit finger pulse oximeter in her memory. Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, Chanute, is in charge of the arrangements.
A Memorial Service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 4, at the Thayer United Methodist Church, Thayer, Kansas. Her cremains have been divided for burial at both Thayer Cemetery, Thayer, Kansas and at Lambrecht Cemetery, rural Pierce, Nebraska.
Rosemary M. Vyhlidal was born May 20, 1931, in Pierce County, the daughter of John and Anna (Dvorak) Vyhlidal. She attended rural elementary schools and graduated from Pierce High School in 1949. She worked for a short time with Omaha Cold Storage in Omaha. She married Ervin Pospisil and they were later divorced. She married Martin Suckstorf on March 6, 1963, in Neligh. Together they farmed and raised cattle. They also owned and operated a chicken and egg production business. Martin preceded her in death on April 30, 1974. She then moved to Thayer, Kansas, to be near her oldest son and his family. She was then employed as a clerk with Carder's Philmart Convenience Store in Thayer and was also a children's caregiver. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pierce.
Surviving are two sons, Ron Vyhlidal Sr., and Carl Suckstorf, both of Thayer, KS; one daughter, Anna Gindlesberger of Thayer, KS; three grandsons; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Catherine Pospisil of Osmond; and several nieces; nephews; and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son-in-law, one brother, Victor Vyhlidal, one brother-in-law, Elmer Pospisil and one nephew, Marvin Pospisil, who was killed in 1969, while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, during the Vietnam War.
