FORBES, Phyllis Louise the widow of Lt. Col. Forrest S. (Woody) Forbes and mother of 6 children and a long time resident of Lancaster has died at her home in Torrance, Calif. Ms. Forbes had been ailing from congestive heart failure since last July and died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 21 days before her 88th birthday. Phyllis Forbes was born April 8, 1921, in Scribner, Nebraska to Rono and Inez Bader and was the fifth of 11 children. After her parents divorced when she was 13 she went to live with Mabel and Harold Larson and
it was there that she accepted Christ as her Savior. She graduated from St. Paul Bible College in Minnesota with a degree in Christian Ministry. She married Forrest Stanley Forbes a budding young rocket scientist and they moved to Dayton, Ohio where he began working on developing liquid rocket propellant. Mr. and Mrs. Forbes moved to Lancaster in 1960, when Mr. Forbes was transferred to Edwards AFB-Rocket Propulsion Laboratory where he became the head of the Research and Development of Liquid Rocket Fuel, in Edwards, Calif. Mrs. Forbes was a house wife rearing her children and teaching them the truths of our Lord from the bible. She kept a daily habit of reading God's word and praying for her children everyday. She is survived by 5 children Foresteen Forbes of Torrance, Rodney Forbes of Lancaster, Phillip Forbes of Lancaster, David Forbes of Granada Hills, Frances Forbes of Torrance, 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
