Charles and Matilda Gentz of Prussia were married after Gentz's discharge from the Confederate Army. He was the son of George Christian Gentz and his wife, Charlotte Uecker. They farmed in the vicinity of present-day Central Gardens Addition, north of Nederland, Texas.
