James Daniel (Jamie) CRAWFORD died July 28 in Billings, Montana. He was the son of John D. CRAWFORD, county clerk of Routt County for many years, and grandson of James H. CRAWFORD, founder of Steamboat Springs. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Billings on July 31, and graveside services in Steamboat Springs on Aug. 1.

Jamie CRAWFORD was born in Steamboat June 23, 1908 and grew up here. He was graduated from the University of Colo. at Boulder. He began working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in an administrative capacity in 1938 at United Pueblos Indian Reservation, Albuquerque, New Mexico. During the second World War he served as project director of Unit II of the Japanese Relocation Center at Poston, Arizona. Following the war he became superintendent of Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation, Belcourt, North Dakota. Later he served as superintendent at the Hopi Indian Reservation, Keams Canyon, Ariz. and also at the Fort Peck Indian Reservation, Poplar, Montana. In 1954, he became administrative officer, Community Service in Billings, Montana area office. In 1971 he retired after 33 years of service with the government.

He was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Billings. He was an active member of the Lions Club and three times received the Distinguished Service Award. He served in local, state, and national capacities with the Boy Scouts of America. He served on the board of the Girl Scout Council. He was a member of the Billings Garden Club.

In 1940 he was married to Ruth STOECKLY of Garden City, Kansas, who survives him. To this union were born four children: Nancy (Mrs. Vern LUCKHURST), Sharon of Concord, Massachusetts, John of Richland, Washington, James, of Cambridge, Mass.

Nancy is a graduate of Macalaster College, with a master's degree from the University of Hawaii. She is presently working as a high school counselor in Dillingham, Alaska. She has a daughter, Michelle Rae, who is one year old.

Sharon is a graduate of Stanford University with a master's degree in mathematics from Montana State Univ. She is currently working as a computer programmer for Computer Vision Corp., Bedford, Mass. John is a graduate of Duke University with a law degree from Washing Univ. He is Deputy Prosecuting Attorney of Prosser County, Richland, Washington.

James holds a bachelor's degree from California Institute of Technology in chemistry. He is presently working for a doctorate at Harvard University in chemistry.

Ruth and her children - Nancy, Sharon, and James came to Steamboat for the graveside services. John was unable to attend, but had visited his father in Billings only a few weeks ago.

Also attending the services were Fred STOECKLY of Garden City, Kansas, brother of Ruth CRAWFORD, and Lulita PRITCHETT of Denver, cousin of Jamie.

Rev. Kenneth LINDOW, of the Baptist Church officiated at the Steamboat services. Pallbearers were Robert NOYCE, Russell OHMAN, Robt. WITHER, Vernon SUMMER, and Elmer BROOKS.
