John Ablamis

John N. Ablamis of Los Gatos died Feb. 7 at the age of 85.

He was born July 31, 1912, in Sacramento and grew up in The Dalles, Ore. From 1932 to 1936, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Henderson and the U.S.S. Peary.

His automobile repair career spanned more than 60 years, from repairing cars in San Luis Obispo to auto parts work in Paso Robles to becoming auto parts manager of Los Gatos Auto Supply in 1949. In 1959, he founded A&M Motor Supply. He semi-retired in 1972.

Ablamis and his late wife, Agnes, traveled extensively throughout Mexico, Canada and the United States until her death in 1981. He continued to travel, fish, golf and work until the fall of 1997.

Survivors include sons Nathan Ablamis of Vader, Wash., and Roger and Duane Ablamis of Los Gatos; granddaughter Lora Dombrowsky of Los Gatos; three great-grandsons; sisters Mary Huss, Dorothy Wyman and Opal Groce, all of Oregon; sister Ruby Beardsley of Kelso, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services have been held, with interment at Los Gatos Memorial Park.
