Otto S. Shafer, 89. Olney, died Thursday in Richland Memorial Hospital, Olney, IL.

Visitation and services will be in the Zirkle Funeral Home with Rev. Dwight Jones and Rev. LeRoy Putman presiding. Burial will be in Haven Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Shafer was born March 14, 1894, in Richland County, the son of James F. and Zada (Stokes) Shafer.

He married Hattie Taylor March 15, 1915, in Olney, and she preceded him in death March 18, 1976.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

He was a farmer in the Claremont area for many years; and was a charter member and organization director of the Richland County Farm Bureau. He was also a member of Richland Lodge 180 I.O.O .F.; and was a general agent for County Life Insurance Co.

Survivors include two sons, Robert, Mendota; Lee, Olney; a brother, George H., Carmel, Ca.; a sister, Mrs. Isabel Boewe, Urbana; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; four brothers, Ray, Claude, Joe, and an infant.
