Burial in Gatlin Cemetery with Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home in charge.

Gene was born in Ardmore, Alabama on August 5, 1941, to Roy Ables and Vinnie Viola Jones Ables.
He lived all his life in this area and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed hunting, knife and coin collecting, and walking and talking.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Carol McPeters Ables, a brother: Weldon Ables, and a sister: Marie White.
Survivors include two sons: Shelby (Christy) Ables of Elkmont, Alabama, and Matthew (Christie) Ables of Huntsville, Alabama; two daughters: Amy (Anthony) Honea of Ardmore, Tennessee, and Christina (Tommy) Miller of Toney, Alabama; three brothers: Wilburn Ables of Ardmore, Tennessee, Paul Ables of Taft, Tennessee, and Flenoy Ables of Toney, Alabama; two sisters: Peggy Richardson of Taft, Tennessee, and Mary Lou Fowler of Winterhaven, Florida; and six grandchildren.
