Leominster --Alyre A. Cormier,75, of 68 Mechanic St., a deputy sheriff for the past 40 years, died Sunday in St.Vincent Hospital in Worcester, after a brief illness. He was born in Fitchburg, a son of Amedee and Vitaline(Girouard)Cormier. He was the husband of Elizabeth M.(Bourque)Cormier. Mr. Cormier was the first president of L'Assumption Society, and was a member of the League of the Sacred Heart of St.Cecilia's Church, the St.Jean Society, the County Sheriff's Association, the Democratic City Committee and former chairman of Ward 2.
Besides his widow, he is survived by five sons, Henry Cormier of Fitchburg, Raymond, Alfred and Robert Cormier of Leomimster and Maurice Cormier of New Orleans, La.; two daughters, Theresa, wife of Roger Lyonais, and Doris, wife of Robert Freda, both of this city; a brother, Louis Cormier of Fitchburg; two sisters, Mother Margaret of Notre Dame of the Sacred Heart, Quebec, Canada, and Mrs. Lillian Tremblay of this city; 19 grandchildren, and three grea-grandchildren. The funeral will be held Wednesday from the M.A. Simard and Son Funeral Home, with a funeral Mass at 9a.m. in St. Cecilia's Church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
