James Floyd Carpenter, son of Phillip and Mary Jane Killen Carpenter, was born October 18, 1882, and departed this life May 23, 1977. His stay on earth was 94 years, 7 months, and 5 days. He was united in marriage to Rosie Calhoun, who preceded him in death. To this union was born 13 children, all living, 4 boys and 9 girls as follows: Ira, James, and John, all of Lansing, NC, General of Creston, NC; Mrs. Della Wiles, Mrs. Cora Stidham, Mrs. Valrie Miller of Lansing, NC, Mrs. Emmer Calhoun, Mrs. Stella Davis of Creston, NC, Mrs. Aulsie Ham of Aberdeen, MD, Mrs. Ella Ham of Volney, VA, Mrs. Irene Poe of Kennett Square, PA, Mrs. Bertha Ham of Damascus, VA. Besides his cihldren, he is survived by 66 grandchildren, 161 great grandchildren, 29 great-great grandchildren, and a great host of relatives and friends.
He professed a hope in Christ in early life and united with the Methodist Church in Fairview. He lived a faithful, Christain life until God called him away from a world of trouble to ever be in the presence of the Lord."
