Arthur Henry (Art) Poock, 100 of Denver, Iowa, died on Friday, February 27, 2009 at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, Waverly.

Arthur was born on July 8, 1908 in Oriska County, North Dakota, the son of William and Mary (Hein) Poock. Art was baptized in North Dakota and when Art was five years old, his family moved to Black Hawk, County, Iowa. Art attended country school at Bennington Township # 8 and in 1923 he was confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver. Following his schooling, Art helped his parents on the home farm, which was located in Bennington Township. On November 30, 1933, Art was united in marriage to Gladys Maria Kehe at St. John's Lutheran Church, Maxfield, rural Denver, Iowa. The couple farmed on rented farms for 5 years and then moved to the Kehe family farm in 1939. Art farmed his entire life, retiring in 1970. Following his retirement, the couple remained on the farm until 1988 when the couple built their new home in Denver.

Art was member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and was a board member of First Maxfield Insurance Company and the Maxfield Creamery. He loved farming, dancing with Gladys and following his retirement he enjoyed fishing.

Art is survived by his wife, Gladys of Denver, Iowa; two daughters, Sandra Sue Eick and her husband, Loren of Denver, Iowa; and Bonnie Wittenburg and her husband, Jerry of Readlyn, Iowa; four grandchildren, Douglas (Gayle) Eick of Denver, Iowa; David (Robin) Eick of Oelwein, Iowa; Randy (Debbie) Wittenburg of Readlyn, Iowa; and Rhonda (Rick) Koepke of Waverly, Iowa; eight great grandchildren, and one sister, Arlene Heinemann of Denver, Iowa.

Art was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ed Poock, one sister, Velma Bruns and great granddaughter, Megan Lee Koepke on February 2, 2007.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 2, 2009 at 10:30 am at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Denver, Iowa; Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Denver. Memorials may be directed to the donor's choice.
