He was preceeded in death by his wife of 47 years, Minnie; parents Stephen & Mary Jane; sisters Emma Revell, Bettie McIlroy, Lucy Dame, Sarah Grindstaff, & Fannie McCloud; brother Sam; and grandson Clinton Escue.

At his death, he was survived by his daughter Birdie Escue; son Clinton; sisters Etta Huddleston & Rhoda Henry, both of Oakland, California; brother Andy; and seven grandchildren: Elmo Escue, Buford Escue, Roberta Escue, Edwina Wood, William Albert Dame, Roger Escue, & Linda Sue Escue.
