He was born July 16, 1951, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Clarence D. and Frances R. (Thronebury) Ackley. As a child, he moved with his family to Parsons where he grew up and attended schools.
He had worked at Ruskin Manufacturing, in Parsons, for the past 31 years as a production worker.
He was a member of the Big Hill Bassmasters Club and the Sheet Metal Workers International Association Local 464. Through the years, he had participated in numerous bass tournaments, enjoyed bowling, playing pool and working on lawn mowers.
He and Susan Grommet were married December 3, 1976, in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives of the home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: One Brother – Robert Ackley Parsons, KS Three Half-Sisters – Carol Arie Wichita, KS Linda Creekkiller Parsons, KS Pat Wise Wellsville, KS Four Brothers-in-Law – Bill Grommet Parsons, KS Philip Grommet and wife, Sharon Parsons, KS John Grommet Parsons, KS Larry Grommet Parsons, KS Two Sisters-in-Law – Roberta Grommet Parsons, KS Jeanie Grommet Joplin, MO Numerous Nieces and Nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents, a half-brother, and a half-sister.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
