PILOT POINT - Lora Mae Vaughan of Tioga went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 5, 2009 from her home in Tioga. She was born on June 6, 1931 in Pilot Point, Texas to Clyde E. and Dorothy Tipton Willett. The family moved to Tioga when she was three years old and she lived there all through school. She attended Tioga School, graduating in 1948.

She married Billy Dee Vaughn April 24, 1950. Bill and Lora lived in various places in Texas and had three children; James Nicholas, who passed away at infancy; Clyde Wayne and Gerald Lynn. They raised their two boys in Irving, and were involved in school, church and community activities. Lora was a dynamic woman of God, loved and admired by all.

Lora worked as an administrative assistant with Consolidated Freightways in Dallas for 38 years. She served as the chairman of the board of her credit union, the chairman of the Tioga Methodist Church, and served on the Tioga City Council as mayor pro-tem. Lora was also active in the Emmaus community.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and her loving husband Bill and son Nicky.

She is survived by sons, Wayne and his wife Cindie of Tioga, Jerry and his wife Madelyn of Gunter; grandchildren, Erin McCollum and husband Cody, Melissa Dickey and husband Luke, Shane Vaughan, Lindsey Vaughan, Nathan Vaughan and wife Tanna. Lora is also survived by great-grandchildren; Christa and Bailey McCollum, Hannah and Mateo Dickey, and Sophia Vaughan.

A funeral service under the direction of Huff / Slay Funeral Center will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at First United Methodist Church in Tioga, Pastor Jerry Mahle will officiate; burial will follow at Tioga Cemetery in Tioga.

Visitation will be held from 6 -8 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at Huff / Slay Funeral Center in Pilot Point.
