Dale was born in Caney, Texas, the youngest of nine children born to the late Charles Ephraim and Dora Artilene Chapman. A World War II veteran, he graduated from Central Bible Institute in Springfield, Mo., with a Th.D. degree. He pastored for over 50 years in Missouri, Texas, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his eldest son, the Rev. Terry Dale Chapman.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia; daughter, Sherry Chapman Hoover and husband, Michael; son, Timothy Alan Chapman and wife, Mary Alice; daughter-in-law, Belvia Lynn Chapman; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his brother F. D. Chapman, of Texas; and sisters, Wilma Evans, Wanda Eason and Jewel Martin, all of Texas.
