Funeral services for Mrs. Doris Jumper of Orangeburg will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at Crestview Baptist Church, 3600 Columbia Road, Orangeburg, with Pastor James Preveaux officiating. Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Spencer Jumper, Geoff Ellis, Steven Coker, Wayne Walling, Adrian Haigler and David Smith.
Doris was born Jan. 24, 1922, in Willow Township, Orangeburg County, the 13th child of Capers Calhoun and Mary Frances Pickering Kinard. Doris passed away peacefully at her Orangeburg residence.
Doris graduated from Willow High School, Norway in 1940. She organized their first class reunion in 1999 by locating all surviving classmates. Over the years she was employed by Smoaks Cleaners, Harvey's Department Store and Jumper Auto Parts. Doris enjoyed flower gardening, growing her own vegetables, baking cakes and spending time with friends, family and her special canine companion, Susie. Doris faithfully supported her church, being a charter member of Crestview Baptist Church. She was the widow of the late Reese Jumper; she was preceded in death by her son, Allan Jumper; her siblings, Capers Calhoun, Quillie Emanuel, Howard, Dollie Amelia, Adam Allen, Quitman and Harry Kinard, Nellie Douglas, Mignon Jones and Idell Berry.
Friends may call at the funeral home. Visitation will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Orangeburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations for the Video System Fund may be mailed to Crestview Baptist Church, P.O. Box 827, Orangeburg, SC 29116.
