Grace M. Griffith, age 93, of Mapleton, former lifelong resident of Amboy, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at the Mapleton Community Home. Memorial services will be held on Monday, April 13, 2009, at 01:30 PM, at United Methodist Church in Amboy, with Rev. Jean Sidner officiating. Burial will be at the Vernon Center Cemetery. Grace was born at home in Amboy on December 14, 1915 the daughter of Elijah and Mary (Bernard) Griffith. Grace was baptized on May 11, 1919 by Rev. John W. Bostrom at the Amboy Methodist Church. She graduated from Amboy High School in 1934 and worked for over 34 years at Stokley Van Camp Factory in Winnebago. Grace never married so she was able to help her parents support and care for over 40 foster children over a few years. After her retirement from Stokleys she worked as an aide at the Maple River School in Amboy. She was a resident of the Amboy until her move to Mapleton Community Home in February 2004. She was a lifelong member of the United Meothdist Church in Amboy and a 65 year member of the Rebekah Lodge. She was a Past Noble Grand and pianist, and was also chosen as the pianist for the State Association Lodge Meeting. She played piano by ear and played for various bands; the Blue Ravins, the Madelia Swing Band, the Andy Lawrence Band and was the pianist for the Melody 5 singing group. She also enjoyed playing and writing music for the Singing Waiters at the Mother and Daughter Banquests at the church, but her greatest love was playing the piano while her siblings, nieces and nephews sang. She loved flowers, gardening, big family holidays, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.
Grace is survived by one brother, Loren Griffith, of Mapleton, an adopted sister, Barbara Peterson, of Albert Lea, and by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Grace is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Harold, Marvin, Arthur, and Ivan Griffith, four sisters, Doris Rambo, Ilah, Helda, and Inas Griffith, two sister-in-laws, Dorothy and Genevieve Griffith and one brother-in-law Alan Rambo.
