Hubert was a friendly, gentle guy who served in WWII as a tank driver. He received the Silver Star in recognition of his outstanding service.
Hubert was beloved by many, including his niece, Judy, whom he reportedly saved in the auto accident which killed her mother, Ernestine, in 1941. Ernestine was Hubert's sister and he was traveling with her, Judy and Judy's brother, Wiley when the accident occurred. Wiley was also killed in the accident.
Hubert wrote beautiful prose and could have had a decent career as a writer if he had so wished.
