Robert L. Carter, a 40 year resident of Dewitt Avenue, Asbury Park, and most recently a resident of Sebastian Villa, Neptune, died Friday, January 10, 1992 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, after a brief illness.
Mr. Carter was born in New Bern, North Carolina on September 6, 1910 to Sylvester and Olivia Martin Carter. He moved to Asbury win 1940. He was an auto mechanic at Fort Monmouth (Camp Evans) for 29 years, retiring in December, 1973.
He was an Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater Operation. He was discharged as a Sergeant with three Battle Stars.
He as a communicant of Saint Peter Claver Roman Catholic Church, where he was a Trustee, Treasurer of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, an Usher, a member of the Men's Club, and a charter member of the Parish Council. He was a former member of the Holy Name Society and the Nocturnal Adoration Society. Mr. Carter was also a member of the Association of Retired Federal Employees, Chapter 411 in Asbury Park. He was also a former member of the J.T. Newman Elks Lodge #998 and the Frederick Dempsey American Legion Post 266, Neptune.
His wife of 49 years, Doris (Famer), died in April 1988. Surviving are two daughters, Linda L. Carter of Atlanta, Georgia and Judy A. Carter of Jacksonville, Florida; on granddaughter, Kimberli Carter, Jacksonville; two grandsons, Kevin J. and Jeffrey A., both of Jacksonville; one great granddaughter, Ivy Michael Hartley of Jacksonville, Florida; three brothers, Caswell M., Raleigh, N.C.; Sylvester L., Riverside, Ca., and James R., Hampton, Va., one sister, Dorcas E., New Bern, N.C. and a host of other relatives and friends.
