Rex Alan Smith, 49, of Navasota, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at College Station Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2009 at New Hope Church, 2159 Highway 105 at Highway 6 in Navasota. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home.

Rex was born April 4, 1959 in Brenham to Alton and Jo Ann Costa Smith and was a life long resident of Navasota. Rex graduated from Navasota High School in 1977 and attended TSTI in Waco. A self-employed construction contractor, he had also been a over the road truck driver. Rex was preceded in death by his father, Alton Smith and a stepbrother, Bruce Urbanosky.

"Wow! What a blast — I really did it my way!" Rex was a fun loving, witty, life of the party, never met a stranger kind of guy. With a love of life, family and friends, one could not help but love him back. Rex left us all too soon, but Heaven could not wait. Hold on St. Peter, you are in for a "Rexas" ride.

Survivors include his mother, Jo Ann Smith and her husband Harold Urbanosky of Plantersville; his children, Suzanne Smith of Denton, Robert Smith and wife, Kate of Nacogdoches and Ben Smith of Stephenville; a grandson, Jaden Hale; a brother, Rob Smith of California and stepbrothers, Jerome Urbanosky and wife, Jane of Plantersville and Mark Urbanosky and wife, Terri of Ardmore, Okla.; 12 nieces and nephews; a great niece and a great nephew; numerous other relatives; his ex-wives, Carolyn, Susie, Marri, Elizabeth, Debby and Alicia; and great number of friends including Keysha and his dog Layla.

Serving as pallbearers will be Cole Harrington, Joey Stem, Bill Gowan, Howdy Smith, Bud Quinn, Jimmy Schroeder and Dave Warzon. Honorary pallbearers are Sammy Conner and Jerome and Mark Urbanosky.

For those that desire, the family has requested memorials to a favorite charity.
