Funeral services for Sister Mary Alan Barszczewski will be held at the Felician Sisters' Provincial Chapel, 260 South Main St. in Lodi at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, with burial in the Felician Sisters' Cemetery, also in Lodi.

Sister Mary Alan died on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, in Jersey City, N.J., at the age of 62 and had been a Felician Sister for 44 years. Viewing will be held in the chapel from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. with a wake service at 6 p.m.

The former Rosemary Elizabeth Barszczewski, Sister Alan was born in Philadelphia in 1946 and entered the Felician Sisters in Lodi, N.J., in 1964. Since 1978 she had ministered at Saint Anthony's High School (home of the nationally famous Friars basketball team) in Jersey City, where for several years she had been athletic director and vice president of development.

Sister Mary Alan is survived by her sister, Monica Lynam of Turnersville, N.J., and by her brother, Ted Barszczewski of Philadelphia, and several members of her extended family.

In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Sister Mary Alan Scholarship Fund, c/o St. Anthony's High School, 175 Eighth St., Jersey City, N.J. 07302, would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements under the direction of the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton.
