Mr. Colonel Allen Lowery of 103 Rosehill Dr., South Boston, VA died Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at the age of 81. He was born in Halifax Co., VA on August 3, 1932 to the late Garland H. Lowery and the late Dura Hudson Lowery and was married to the late Louise Wilson Lowery. Mr. Lowery was a member of Florence Ave. Baptist Church and was a retired oil truck driver for Southern States.
Survivors include two sisters, Barbara Talbott and husband, Ed of South Boston, VA and Jane Clark and husband, Ryland of South Boston, VA; three brothers, Clifton "Click" Lowery and wife, Joyce of Alton, VA, Jesse Lowery and wife, Bernice of South Boston, VA, and Garland A. Lowery and wife, Jeanette of South Boston, VA; and one step son, Merritt Wilson of Virgilina, VA. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Yancey and Nell Bowen, and five step children.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Chapel with Rev. Norman Talley officiating. Burial will follow in Virgilina Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Friday from 12:00 PM until 12:45 PM and at other times at the home of Jane and Ryland Clark, 4020 Old Cluster Springs Rd., South Boston, VA.
