Mary Ann Brumfiel, daughter of John and Salome Drook, was born in Drake county, Ohio, April 16, 1818.. Deceasd in Jalapa, Ind., January 12, 1915, aged 96 years, 8 months and 26 days.

She was united in marriage to Robert Brumfiel August 29, 1839, who preceded his wife to the land immortal twenty years ago. To this union was born nine children, four sons and five daughters, Sanford, Oscar, Wellman, Calvin, all living at the present time; Melvina, Fiant, Arteneci Renbarger, Candice Creviston, Lavona Murray and Alma Brumfiel having deceased, Mrs. Massey in 1877, Alma in November, 1882 Sister Brumfiel and her husband moved to Richland township in 1852, where they spent the remaining years of their lives. She was a member of the Baptist church through the earlier years of her life, but the last twenty-two or twenty-three of her life she had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and had lived a faithful, conscientious life until the day of her translation.

Her long and useful life had been one of quiet and deep concern for the church, and was characterized by her unpretentious fidelity until the end. Mrs. Brumfiel leaves to mourn her timely departure from a life of ripened years of pioneer toils three brothers, two sisters, four sons, three daughters, thirty-two grandchildren, sixty-nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The aggregate number of years of her brothers and sisters and herself at the time of her departure was 522 years, and the number of her immediate family relations 116. What a family reunion awaits if each and all are faithful to God unto the end of life. Who can estimate the supreme value of a conscientious and Christian life given unselfishly to the world, when the years roll back and eternity opens its dawn we shall see and know even as we are known.
The family is deeply thankful for the beautiful floral offerings received from the many friends, and particularly the county officials and their deputies.
