First, John was my great great grandfather and he died of "natural causes" while serving in the Confederacy. His mother's name was Nancy C. Harris (with two
r's). I believe she was the daughter of John M. and Margaret Harris who were living with William D. and Nancy C. Jackson in 1850 in Fayette Co., AL. They too were from SC.

John was a private in Co. F, 38th Alabama Infantry and living in Fayette Co., AL at the time of his enlistment. According to his military records (which I have
a copy and a transcrition of), he served at a nurse. According to a family bible he died at Braggs/Braggo Hospital in Americus, GA. Because of the proximity to
Andersonville Prison, I have often wondered if he also served there. I also have copies and transcriptions of letters he wrote home. One to his sister, Jane Lavonia (Jackson) Mosley and two to his young son.

I don't know if you can use any of this information to enhance his memorial but I thought I would share the information with you. Since he is my great great
grandfather, and if you are not connected and willing, I would be happy to assume ownership of his memorial. I live in California but located and visited his grave many years ago. I appreciate your efforts on his behalf in any case.

Second, I'm curious if you are connected to the Jackson family in some way. A number of us are attempting to determine more about John's ancestry and would
love to connect with others related to the family.
