Age 74, died Friday, April 30, 2004, at Hospice Home, Fort Wayne, IN. Born January 5, 1930 in Columbus, OH, to the late James and Ona (Acton) Barngrover, he was a U.S. Navy veteran. He is survived by his wife, Catherine "Kate" Love-Jacobson of Fort Wayne, IN; daughters, Mary (Ron) Leavitt of Logan, Utah; Suzan (Joe) Belmonte of Elmira, NY, Dee Love-Barngrover and Liz Love-Barngrover of Fort Wayne; sons, David, James (Joellen), and Matthew of Sarasota, FL; sister, Mary (Harry) Kissner, FL;

10 grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents; his son, Christopher; and first wife, Doris "Johnnie" Small.

DAVID WILLIAM BARNGROVER, 74, died Friday, April 30, 2004, at Hospice Home. He was born Jan. 5, 1930, in Columbus, Ohio, son of the late James and Ona (Acton) Barngrover. After graduating from Cathedral High School of Indianapolis in 1947, he served four years in the U.S. Navy. He attended Butler University and began his career with the U.S. Department of Defense as a quality assurance specialist inspecting laser-guided missiles at U.S. Naval Avionics Facility, Indianapolis, in 1952. In 1968 he took a job as a technical writer and quality assurance specialist at Magnavox in Fort Wayne, retiring in 1985 after 30 years of government service. He later worked as a technical writer with Hupp & Associates and as a private quality assurance consultant. He was a valued contributor to the local theater scene who helped found the Theater Workshop in the 1970s, and an award-winning actor and director at Arena Dinner Theater, First Presbyterian Theater and Civic Theater. He also directed the Festival of Trees for several years and mentored many local writers and thespians. An avid reader and crossword puzzle black belt, he loved chess, poetry, music and martinis. He will be remembered for his generous heart and missed by his many friends for his keen wit and wicked sense of humor. Survivors include his wife Catherine "Kate" Love-Jacobson of Fort Wayne; daughters Mary (Ron) Leavitt and grandchildren Jacqui, Nicole and Ashley of Logan, Utah; Suzan (Joe) Belmonte and grandchildren David William, Sarah and Catie of Elmira, N.Y.; Dee Love-Barngrover and Liz Love-Barngrover of Fort Wayne; sons David of Sarasota, Fla., and grandson Christopher of Fort Wayne; James (Joellen) and grandchildren Eric, Mandy, and Robert of Sarasota, Fla.; Matthew (Tammi) and grandchildren Mark, Chrissy and Nikki of Sarasota, Fla.; sister Mary (Harry) Kissner of Florida; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Christopher, and first wife, Doris "Johnnie" Small. No services or calling. A celebration of David's life is from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 5310 Old Mill Road. Preferred memorials are to Visiting Nurse and Hospice or Arena Dinner Theatre.
