Howard Hufford, the only son, of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel W. Hufford, died at Camp Dodge Sunday morning at 12:30 o'clock of pneumonia. The remains reached Toledo, Monday morning and were accompanied by Private Rudolph Novak of Cedar Rapids. He had been ill for about two weeks.
Howard Huston Hufford was born in Toledo township on August 26, 1893, and at the time of his death had reached the age of 25 years, 1 month, and 23 days. He attended the country school, completing his course there; he afterward entered the commercial course in Leander Clark College, but on account of ill health discontinued his studies.

He heard his country's call and went into training at Camp Dodge September 5, 1918. He gave himself a victim on the sacred altar of freedom. He sacrificed himself for humanity. He was one of the many who fell covered with the conqueror's glory and adorned with the martyr's eternal crown. He was one of the millions dying for the cause of universal peace and brotherhood.

Private funeral services, were held from the Owen parlors Tuesday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Dr. W. L. Alexander of the Methodist church and assisted by Rev. G. G. Booton of the Toledo Circuit. Interment was in Woodlawn cemetery. The pall bearers were Lee Hufford, Bert Davis, J. T. Foster, F. E. Corfman, Bert Morgan and E. E. Foster. The bereaved parents have the sympathy of the entire community in the loss of their only son.
