The family would like to thank Dr. Gremillion, Dr. Hastings, Dr. St. Amant, Dr. Miletello and Dr. Falgoust and the staff and residents of Williamsburg Retirement Community for making his last year a wonderful experience. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. He started his career in the refrigeration business and was the owner and operator of the Bluebird Ice Cream Plant on Meriam Street from 1943 to 1953. He later taught at St. John High School and coached the girls basketball team to a perfect district record. He was one of the organizers of the St. John Father's Club and served as president. He started the Jr. Deputies Program, and as chief juvenile officer, he affected the lives of many of Plaquemine's youth in a positive manner. He had a great passion and gift for photography. His love for Plaquemine and its history lead to years of research which culminated in his writing two books on the history of the City of Plaquemine. He also published a pictorial CD of old time Plaquemine. Among the many awards that he received were his induction into the St. John Hall of Fame as a coach, the Judge Kimball Law Day Award, the Outstanding Citizenship Award of Plaquemine and the Foundation of Historic Louisiana Award. Tony Fama was very proud of his Italian heritage and the part his family played in Plaquemine's development, but most important to him was his family. He was as proud of them as they will always be of him. He was a remarkable man, one of a kind, and he will be missed more than words could ever express.
