Luther Burnette

Luther Burnette, 82, died Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at the Brian Center in Waynesville.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the son of the late Carl and Pearl Singleton Burnette. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Carrie Sisk Burnette who died in 2003. He was also preceded in death by two brothers Rev. Vaughn Burnette and Scott Burnette.

He retired from American Enka and was a member of Canton Wesleyan Church. He enjoyed gardening, bird watching and the outdoors.

Left to cherish his memory are two daughters Mary Ann Walker and her husband, Arthur of Asheville and Nancy Garrison of Flat Rock; three sisters Lena Chastain and Emmaline Davis both of Canton and Letha Pinkerton of Candler; a brother, J. C. Burnette of Canton; a sister-in-law, Barbara Matteson of Candler and four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Daniel Fox, the staff and residents of the Brian Center, the staff of Haywood Regional Medical Center, Eugene and Pearl Somers and Jack Gaddy.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 18, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services with the Rev. Terry Penland officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Gideons International, East Haywood Camp, Box 1204, Canton, NC 28716.
