David O. Culver born about 1770 in Morris Co., New Jersey, along with his father, David Culver, first born son of Robert Culver and Ann Clark, settled in Luzerne County, Pennslyvania about 1797. When the son was installed on the Luzerne Co. tract of land, his father, the elder David apparently moved back to New Jersey where he died. The younger David O. Culver had made a small clearing, but later moved to a point on the Susquchanna River, just below Tunkhannock, the flat bottom land gave him a faster return for his hard labor, until such a time that he could improve his heavily timbered land in Luzerne Co. Records in Luzerne Co. show that during the time that he lived in Tunkhannock, (several of his children were born), he made trips back and forth to his track of 400 acres where he continued clearing, and hunting and trapping wolves, bears and other wild beasts that kept destroying his farm animals and crops. He cleared 100 acres for his farm and improvements. He built a large frame house. At that time was considered a mansion. In 1913 this house was still standing and in excellent condition. He was a hardworking man and a worthy citizen. He was a staunch Democrat, and a man of influence. He married Eunice Osborne of Eliizabethport, Union Co., New Jersey on Nov. 10 1795. She was of scotch decent.

He raised 9 children: Elizabeth Culver; Mary Culver; Rebecca Culver; Rachel Culver 1798–1867, She married William Culver (probably a cousin); Oliver Culver 1799–1864, Oliver married Frances Ann Ford; John Culver 1802–1877, John married Maria Hannah Besteder; David O. Culver 1803–1873, married Clarissa Simmons in Luzerne Co., Pa. and had 10 children before moving on.(In Google Books by John Woolf Jordan 1913, "Genealogical and Personal History of Northern Pennsylvania, it says that David went Kansas) and probably he did, and then moved farther west. In the 1850 census he was in Virgil, Kane Co., Illinois; Lewis Culver 1811–1896, Lewis married Sarah (Sally) Ann Hadsall, and lived on farm near the home place. He and Sally are both buried in Mountain View Cemetery, as is most of their children; James Culver 1822, James disappeared from history at a young age.

David and Eunice were buried in the Mountain View Cemetery in Exeter, Luzerne Co.
