Due to ill health and depression, William committed suicide.

WILLIAM J. PIERCE
William J. Pierce of Davenport, for many years a resident of Clinton city and county, was found dead in his home at 3:30 p.m., Thursday when his son Glenn came into the gas-filled home. Funeral services will be held in the Maginnis Funeral home, Davenport, at 2 p.m. Saturday and burial will be in the cemetery in Elvira.
Mr. Pierce was born 60 years ago in February in Central City. He was married to Miss Hattie Kelly, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. S. S. Kelly of Elvira, now of Clinton, and during the later years was identified in various enterprises in Clinton. His health has been failing for months.
He leaves his wife, son Glenn of Davenport, daughter Bernice Kramer of Clinton, brother A.J. Pierce of Clinton and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Boice of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Myers of Wyoming and Mrs. Harms of Allison.
