She was born Feb. 21, 1916, near Wellsville, to Harry L. and Phonnie Marie Abney Bivins. She formerly was employed at Sunflower Ordnance Works in DeSoto. She spent most of her life in the Paola community.
She was a former member of the North Windy Community Club. She served for many years on the Miami County election board.
She married Harold Dayton Carpenter July 3, 1933, in Ottawa. He died Feb. 24, 1989.
A son, Max Carpenter, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Tim Carpenter, Lawrence; a brother, T.J. Bivins, Wellsville; eight grandchildren and six great- grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wilson and Son Funeral Home in Wellsville.
Burial will be in Wellsville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeralhome. Memorial contributions may be made to Olathe Hospice.
